Frederick Wolffe, a native of Bavaria, emigrated to Mobile, Ala. where he became a cotton broker. By 1874 Wolffe had moved to Montgomery, Ala., was involved in cotton trading and railroads, and worked for the Republican Party. Wolffe became a prominent member of Montgomery's Jewish community, and served as a trustee and treasurer of Kahl Montgomery.
